BACKGROUND:
Clark County Specialized Mental Health and Recovery Treatment (SMART) program is located in the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program supports a capacity of 60 patients who are declared incompetent to stand trial (IST) and patients who have returned from a state hospital for continued stabilization. The SMART program focuses on intensive psychiatric stabilization as well as daily programming to include basic life skills, social skill education, therapeutic and symptom management groups, recreation and activating which foster both social and independent group. The program began accepting patients in June 2024.
Philosophy:
The SMART Program embraces recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care for all patients. The recovery model promotes patient choice and tailors treatment to meet individual needs based on the assessments of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.

Significant Achievements:
- 47 patients enrolled by day four.
- Programming started on day four with 87% participation.
